The poems that make up Anodyne consider the small moments that enrapture us alongside the daily threats of cataclysm. Formally dynamic and searingly personal, Anodyne asks us to recognize the echoes of history that litter the landscape of our bodies as we navigate a complex terrain of survival...This book is a tribute to my artistic expression, which has served as a source of solace for me over the years. It serves as a repository for my emotions, ranging from the highs of joy and love to the lows of disappointment and anger. By fusing my poetry with my artwork, which has played an essential role in maintaining my sanity, I hope to inspire readers to embrace their emotions and express themselves through words or art.
I offer this
...Writing songs based upon my poetry presented me with
the similar excitement I felt when writing short
screenplays based upon my short stories. Crossing genres
from written to audio/visual helped me to discover so
much more between the lines that I did not realize in the
previous iteration.
Besides the technical aspects of form and function, I
discovered the differences in pacing, intensity, and
urgency. With songwriting,
Man did not make this world.
Man cannot break this world.
When life hands you lemons, you paint that shit gold. Many
residents of the United States who traveled outside their
borders for a vacation against racial, socio-political, and
economic violence in 2020 brought gold spray paint, glitter,
confetti, and ribbons with which to bedazzle their lemons.
