Book Preview: #1 I was born in the Soviet Union under difficult circumstances. My father was involved in an illegal business, taking and printing photographs for churches. My family decided to flee the Soviet Union and relocate to Israel. During this time of transition for my family, five surgeries were performed on my eyes. The first two were unsuccessful. The other three were successful, but scarred my lenses to the point that 99 percent of them was scar tissue. #2 I was born blind, and as a response to the fear and insecurity that filled my early life, I developed a sense of commitment. I did not want to be labeled as a blind person, and so I began to transition and change. #3 I escaped into my Braille books. I was always reading, and I would read for hours on end when my mother said, Time to sleep, lights out. I wanted to be liberated from my condition, but all the doctors said there was nothing I could do. #4 I had a bright future, but I did not know what it was. I met another boy named Jacob who had dropped out of high school. I learned the eye exercises he taught me, and as I practiced them, I received more complaints from the authority figures in my life.
